There is little to be said about the August Personage In The Jade Mask, Tenth of the Nine Hidden Seers, and Adept of the terrible secrets of the Black Tibetan mystics. Mainly because he surrounds himself with an air of obfuscatory chaos and a forbidding and mysterious demeanor. He has also been known to lie on one or two occasions. A passionate student of all forms of oriental mysticism, the Jade Mask has progressed in his knowledge since his first life, that of a Tibetan yak herder in the mid 1400s. Mastering the ability to control his reincarnations in the 1600s was the greatest leap forward he has yet had (though he is said to despise the first two years of any new incarnation). By the mid 1800s, the Jade Mask ruled a virtual empire of criminals, cut-throats, and black monks. Tragically, these were all destroyed when the Unseen Masters moved against him in the Fall of 1867. The Unseen Masters prevented his re-birth until they were assaulted in turn by the Blood Magi of Communist China in 1974. Quickly taking advantage of his foe's discomfort, the Jade Mask leapt back into the physical world. By 1988 he felt secure enough to launch his campaign against the still extant Unseen Masters, but a quirk of fate intervened and he made the acquaintance of the Invisible Emperor during an occult study group in western Pennsylvania. Quickly realizing that he was in the presence of one hand-picked by Destiny for greatness, the Jade Mask offered his services to the Invisible Emperor and was rewarded with his current post of Minister of Philosophy, Zen Insanity, and Serendipity. |
