The frosty Lord Kelvin is a living example of the wonders of para-scientific research, being the synthesis of an ætheric duplicate of William Thomson (1824 to 1907) and a creature composed of elemental ice. Taking the name “Lord Kelvin” upon awakening in the laboratory of the mastermind Professor Albert Drake in 1917, he spent some small sum of years collaborating with Professor Drake. Their partnership ended in 1921, when Professor Drake was executed by the British government and Lord Kelvin was forced to flee to the northern reaches of Canada. Occupying a succession of secret bases, Lord Kelvin continued his researches but was plagued by persecution and the attempts of the Canadian government to arrest him on behalf of the British for the “crimes” he had supposedly committed. In 1924 he encountered Emperor Norton IV in northern Montana and was recruited into the Invisible Empire, serving as the first Minister of Science, Para-Mystical Contraptions, and Obscure Theories. In an episode that he rarely discusses in great detail, Lord Kelvin was imprisoned in the North Polar Icecap in the summer of 1951 by Inquisitor McCarthy's malevolent henchman, the so-called 'Captain Justice' (now leader of the League of Omnibenevolence). The Invisible Emperor freed Lord Kelvin in 1987 during Operation: Iron Platypus, which also saw the release of Dr. Apocalypse the next year and the subversion of several bureaucrats in Washington City and other places. Returning to his Ministry with new vigour, Lord Kelvin supervised the construction of the Imperial University of Scientific and Thaumaturgical Studies throughout the next decade. He is currently President of the Imperial Academy of Para-Science, Minister of Science, Irrationality, and Techno-mysticism, and wanted dead by the agents of the false government. |
